Walk-In Shower Conversions in Gresham and Portland

The tub comes out. A curbless tiled shower with a bench and grab bars goes in.

What is included

  • Curbless entry. The shower floor slopes to the drain with no curb to step over. A walker or wheelchair rolls straight in.
  • Built-in bench. A tiled or teak seat in the corner, at chair height.
  • Grab bars. Set into solid blocking in the wall at the entry and beside the bench, in a finish that matches the faucet.
  • Handheld sprayer. On a slide bar, reachable from the bench.
  • Non-slip tile. A textured floor tile rated for wet areas.
  • Glass panel or no door. A fixed panel keeps the entry open and the water in.
  • Waterproofing. A full membrane under the tile, which is what makes a curbless shower last.

Common questions

How long does a tub-to-shower conversion take?

Most take one to two weeks from demo to finished tile. Moving the drain or fixing a subfloor adds a few days.

Can a curbless shower be built on a wood-framed floor?

Yes. The floor is recessed between the joists or built up around the shower so the pan sits flush. We check the framing on the walkthrough.

Do grab bars have to look institutional?

No. Grab bars now come in the same finishes as faucets, and set into a tiled wall they read as a towel bar.

Will removing the tub hurt resale?

Most buyers in the Portland market prefer a walk-in shower in the main bath. Keeping a tub in a second bathroom covers the rest.

Is the shower floor slippery?

We use textured tile rated for wet floors. A curbless shower with a bench is the safest bathroom setup there is.
